Maintenance bypass
A bypass creates an alternate operating state so protected equipment can be isolated—but it also creates new hazards.
How it works
Provide a controlled route around a UPS or other maintainable element with interlocks, procedures and state indication.
Where it fits
Facilities that must service critical electrical equipment without taking the supported load offline.
Where it breaks
The bypass state, protection coordination and operator sequence have not been engineered and rehearsed.
Tradeoff register
- Enables maintainability
- Can temporarily reduce protection
- Human factors and labeling become design requirements
Interactive teaching model
This card connects to the power lab. Its output is a bounded calculation or an illustrative directional model, not measured site data or a commissioned design result.
